south korean firm OBBA (office for beyond boundaries architecture) has designed this compact home for a young couple in suburban seoul. named ’50m2′, the home has been carefully adapted to the client’s everyday lifestyle and their prospective plans for the future. ‘they wanted a modest but plentiful life in it. the project emerged from finding a realistic solution for the newlyweds to move into an alternative abode, other than an apartment building or a multi-unit housing.’ comments OBBA.

the couple acquired the piece of land which enabled them to construct a home suitable to their needs

the home is spread across two floors with smaller intermediate levels merged in between. efficiently making the most of the limited floor space of the residence, the kitchen, dining and living has been merged into one fluid space. part of the timber flooring has been heightened into a platform, serving as a dining bench for the kitchen, and the counter as a work space. simultaneously, the top level is a study-cum-movie screening room, and the stairs have been integrated as bookshelves.
