in 2011, thailand national petroleum company PTTEP held an open competition to design a two story office in commemoration of 30 years operating at the sirikit oil exploration project. office AT, based in bangkok, thailand was the winner of the contest, and went on to complete the ‘PTEEP-S1 office’.

the site is located at the entrance to the sirikit oil field, in lankrabue, kamphaeng pet province, thailand. standing at approx. 2,000m2, the two story structure acts as a main office for the company’s research facility. the interior approach of office AT is representative of the most essential component of ‘PTEEP’: oil. massive concrete slabs provide visuals similar to the crude element.

aside from offices, ‘PTEEP-S1’ contains a lecture room, reception area, and other administrative facilities. the office’s two floors are separated by a diagonal, grass-covered plane. employees can use the outdoor space as a place for a quick break, or informal meetings. when not in use, the courtyard acts as a visual connector between the two distinct levels. aluminum fins protect the building from harsh sunlight, increase energy saving performance, and functions as a canvas for the structure’s branding.
