OMA merges sport and sciences with brighton college’s dynamic new building in england

OMA/rem koolhaas will be developing the new building to accommodate brighton college‘s sport and sciences department. the independent, english co-ed boarding and day school has a long historical background along with a distinguished reputation. after commissioning the international firm, the proposed scheme shows the two departments becoming integrated into one linear building. located at the edge of the playing field, the physical education spaces will be at ground level with the sports hall opening directly onto it.OMA-rem-koolhaas-brighton-college-building-designboom-02
the sports hall will spill onto the playing field and the science department will overlap with a ‘skeletal’ bridge

 

 

 

meanwhile, the science spaces will subtly merge with its neighboring facility with a ‘skeletal’ bridge and finished with façades which reference the rhythm of the terrace housing opposite. with the project recently submitted for planning approval, the new building will create an integration between the two departments and see a energetic circulation for the school as a whole.
