located in the karuizawa, a popular getaway for japanese city slickers, ‘omni zubata N house’ by iida archiship studio uses an exaggerated gable to create the ultimate wraparound terrace. the holiday home’s living volume is recessed from the concrete covering and clad almost entirely in richly grained wood panels. asymmetrically mullioned glazing follows the roofline and allows a lofted study to enjoy views of the thick, surrounding forest. the lines of the interior wooden skin follow the horizontal boardmarks of five slate-colored bands that articulate the side-sweeping veranda.
