chinese firm people’s architecture office has recently completed the new ’21 cake headquarters’ for the popular gourmet pastry franchise in beijing. the two-layer light-grey office holds all the rich flavors of vibrant tones inside, topped with a large skylight. white surfaces on the interior act as backdrops for the laminated panes of primary colors, red, blue and yellow. depending on one’s position and sequence through the hallway, the overlapping planes visually overlap to create a different combinations of resultant hues spanning the range of the rainbow, illuminated by natural and artificial light. the furniture, also in vanilla tones, are fragments of geometries that can fit into one another as puzzle pieces, allowing for flexibility in reunion space and function.
