‘fabric prism’ is an inflatable immersive color installation built around the fundamental properties of light and color. the form is made from a blown-up architectural double-membrane, formed and fabricated by pneuhaus – a collective who work within the fields of spatial design, temporary structures, and contemporary art.

the installation was constructed on june the 3rd, 2016, as part of pvdfest: a festival celebrating international arts in rhode island in the US.

on the façade of the structure red, blue, and green fabric panels can be seen on the exterior membrane, which filter through to produce subtle color gradients on the white surface inside. pneuhaus’ concept for the installation builds upon the scientific reproduction of color within the environment which works by reflecting light off visible surfaces.

as visitors walk around the prism they can see multiple perspectives of the geometric structure. different gradients seen from inside shift throughout the day relative to the position of the sun providing an interactive installation which sheds light on the transformative qualities of color.
