for the prada 2018 resort fashion show, AMO has reinterpreted the osservatorio, fondazione prada’s new exhibition space dedicated to photography. set within milan’s galleria vittorio emanuele II, the exhibition space extends across the building’s upper levels adjacent to the glass and iron dome that covers the arcades. conceived as a ‘confrontation between real and manufactured moments’, seating has been arranged in a linear layout orienting guests towards the building’s famed dome.

AMO has positioned a continuous mirror along one side of the room, designed to enhance the overall space and augment the room’s proportions. ‘enhanced by both reflective and translucent columns, the guests have a transfigured view of the chiseled profile of mengoni’s architecture,’ explains prada. ‘models walk along the windows, glowing in the afternoon sun, suspended between the sky and the ornate iron dome that acts as the silent backdrop for the show.’

a series of reflective and pastel-colored screens present distorted fragments of the galleria building as well as details of the collection. the galleria’s exhibition rooms were originally completed in 1867 before being rebuilt after world war II. the spaces were fully restored in december 2016, providing fondazione prada with an 800 square-meter gallery that develops across two levels.
