rem koolhaas is slated to design a new building for the state hermitage museum in st.petersburg, russia. announced by museum director mikhail piotrowski at a board meeting with the ministry of culture, the new structure will house the hermitage library, costume museum, publishing house and a public event space. while the pritzer-prize winning architect has consulted the hermitage before about a building expansion for general staff as well as the development of a contemporary art wing, the new project is set to be presented to the department of urban planning in the immediate and to the ministry of culture in october. OMA and AMO, the research component of koolhaas’s firm, are additionally developing the post graduate studies ‘arrow’ program in conjunction with the institute for media, culture and design– a project that will represent russia in the 2014 venice architecture biennale of which koolhaas is the curator.
