less than a year after the tallest building in western europe opened its doors to the public, ‘the shard’ is set be joined by a new residential tower also designed by internationally acclaimed architect renzo piano.

as reported by the guardian, the new 27-storey tower will include 150 apartments, commercial and retail outlets and a roof garden. the project involves the redevelopment of an existing 1970s office building, providing 14,900 square meters of floor space.

‘it is intended that this new building will ‘float’ some 14m above the enlarged public realm space on london bridge street, opening up new access routes between the two levels, and providing views down to guy’s hospital, kings college campus and the proposed science gallery for the first time’, explained sellar, the developers behind the project.
