riverstone by daniel libeskind

riverstone is a new commercial and retail complex currently being built in incheon, south korea.
the multi-faceted design was created by studio daniel libeskind, the firm’s third project in korea.
expected to be complete in 2013, the building will house a shopping mall, department store,
cinema, ice rink, food court and two pedestrian bridges. the concept behind the structure is
inspired by the relationship between nature and the city. the flow of the space was conceived of
as water flowing through rocks in a river. while the flow focuses on the human scale, the structure
is composed of larger volumes which relate to the scale of the city. the location of the complex
is right in the center of new songdo city’s retail district.
