balanced on a mountain slope upon the eastern side of mount wellington, tasmania, ‘little big house’ by the architects at room 11 sits mindfully amongst its wooded context. wrapped in vertical strips of timber cladding, the dwelling is positioned close to and perpendicular to the winding road and tucked between cadastral constraints. working with a small footprint, the home is comprised of two floors- one being a mezzanine level and follows the terrain of the mountain.

cozy and light filled, the large windows are purposely positioned to open directly onto views of the garden, sky and surrounding scape. polycarbonate cladding on the eastern and western facades render luminous shadow walls which enable the house to be concurrently light and contained. the home is designed to be extremely private, the box-shaped property has been kept minimal internally, with a spacious living space warmed by a cast-iron fireplace.
