displaying techniques and materials from spain’s sierra nevada region, london-based studio roz barr architects have completed a pool house and sculptors studio that seamlessly integrates into its rustic surroundings. comprising a studio, an outdoor kitchen and spanish limestone pool, the home is conceived as a contemporary expression of the area’s traditional architecture. the building responds to its grassy surroundings by using natural materials such as the stones walls that have been erected.

topped with a natural terrace and a ‘cut’ in the land, the sculpture studio forms an unexpected connection as well as access from the roof to the pool side. this element provides another plateau from which views can be enjoyed across the landscape and, furthermore, ensures that the studio remains cool throughout summer months. the concrete structure is composed with an uninterrupted span floating above the shaded outdoor area, complemented with a timber, brise-soleil, which carefully weaves through the tapered concrete beams. the studio itself opens on two sides to frame views of the sierra nevada beyond.
