schmidt hammer lassen architects‘ proposal ‘breiavatnet lanterna’ has won a competition with their dynamic scheme for boosting the city of stavanger in norway’s ambitions for future urban developments. the project will be highest in norway once completed and will create a new benchmark for sustainable and creative work environments and offer a new public setting.

schmidt hammer lassen’s development includes the transformation of the existing park and a new 101-meter tower containing highly flexible space for offices, restaurants, exhibitions and conferences. the ground and top floors will be open to the public ensuring a new meeting place in the city. the scheme is located near stavanger central station on a unique site next to the future ‘tivoliparken’ which will be an inviting city oasis park for pedestrians, providing new lines of connections in the surrounding neighborhood.

the 26-storey tower is accessible on three of its sides with the main entrance towards the park and a ground floor designed to interweave with the urban fabric. the façade composed of of slim vertical aluminum and glass panels will offer increased daylight to over 1,000 work spaces. furthermore, green terraces have been positioned at different heights to bring a identifiable character to the new build.
