located in sprawling residential neighborhood in tokyo, ‘housecut’ by architect studio starpilots is designed as a family home along with their personal office space. taking over a large corner plot, the irregular form has been split into three tall structures with the center volume set back from the other two, forming a sheltered porch. the approach of splitting the property into thirds, is due to the site being under consideration for the city’s road building plans. therefore, if this planning were to go through, one of the volumes can be cut off. each of the three entities can be directly entered directly via their own entrance and with the generous floorplan, the home also provides space the family’s funeral company.

at the rear end, the pitched forms extend at different lengths, with randomly placed window openings allowing different angles of illumination within. externally, each face of the house has been clad in green shingles, meanwhile the façade left as white. with an outdoor courtyard on the top floor, this distinctive home is interesting structurally, and visually among its more traditional neighbors.
