‘hotel O’, a conceptual project by studio lawrence kim, is a boutique resort located within the breath taking coastal environment of okinawa prefecture, japan. the imagined venue translates the site’s natural surrounding into the primary architectural element in and outside the hotel. the massing strategy minimizes the building’s impact on surroundings, and increases connection between residents and the ocean, by situating the main form directly at the base of the cliff. a secondary structure, the event hall, is located atop the cliff, which serves as a bridge to the main hotel lobby and beach beyond. within ‘hotel O’, the location’s four natural elements — beach, water, sky, and cliff — are framed to create distinct, wonderful views for guests
