taller estilo installs double height glass doors to concrete dwelling in mexico city

despite its limiting plot of land, taller estilo arquitectura have created a three level concrete dwelling in mexico city. during the construction of ‘raw house’, the design team decided to deviate from using synthetic and fabricated materials. instead, the home displays the use of ready-available and locally sourced materials to demonstrate a sense of appreciation to the city’s natural context and intrinsic beauty.

plant filled patios or courtyards are seen throughout the house

developed to ensure an efficient and comfortable living for the inhabitants; throughout the residence passive cooling has influenced the resulting spatial organization. a set of double-height glass doors open completely to the rear courtyard and pool area. the water element naturally cools air before it enters, meanwhile the glass wall to the east opens or closes, allowing control over the flow of air. the sliding glass doors create an ‘air chimney’ which simultaneously invites natural light in the spacious interiors.

the kitchen sits below the mezzanine level

comprised across three levels, the first two open out towards the backyard, with the kitchen, living and dining spread over the lower ground and mezzanine level. the scheme takes advantage of its plot, with new landscaped gardens at its front and back, while green walls have been integrated into the interior. high walls provide a privacy and security to the home which have been subtly continued as walls of the rooms inside. furthermore, concrete and other natural materials such as timber detailing is is prevalent throughout – blurring the boundaries between its naturally cooled interiors and its lush surroundings.
