drawing influence from the streets of brooklyn, ‘biggie smalls‘ (an ode to rapper notorious b.i.g.) is a restaurant in melbourne created by technē architecture and interior design. despite the specific geographical theme that runs throughout, the restaurant serves middle-eastern cuisine.

the combination of kebabs and hip-hop resonates in the colors and material palette. referencing a classic new york diner through stainless steel, vinyl, colored tiles and timber laminate. the space is colored with yellow upholstered booths – similar to the recognized taxi’s of new york – and finished with a black and white-chequered trim.

overhead chrome luggage racks appear lifted straight from the city’s subway cars and sits above with five booths. stools lining a continuous bar that curves from point-of-sale across to the street facing window. bold artwork covers the façade by local graffiti artist jimmy b of graffix creative. distinctively standing out on the streetscape, the designers at techne have created an interior which portrays an american diner meets locals-only neighborhood bar.
