the danish island of bornholm, located in the middle of the baltic sea, was once only famous for its fishing industry, but more recently the region has become a burgeoning destination for summer travelers. swedish practice white was commissioned to build a structure that would serve as a local landmark, acting as a catalyst for future activity within the region. entitled ‘hasle harbour bath’, their design is formed of a series of basins protected by granite breakwaters. these angular barriers block specified views and restrict swimming access to the open sea.

the floating concrete structure features two stair formations, creating staggered seating of varying depths. two diving platforms extend from the main stairway, providing expansive views along the waterfront. a 25 meter ramp connects the building to the landing, where a timber clad hut contains a sauna, washroom and an outdoor changing area. future development of the site is planned, with a series of small wooden decks draping the breakwaters and offering the possibility of more recreational activities.
