winners have been announced for the seventh edition of the ‘prix W’, an architectural design competition for students and young professionals hosted by the wilmotte foundation. this year’s brief was particularly ambiguous, only requesting that competitors develop a concept involving the pondorly. built in 1968 by french architect paul vimond the structure is a hybrid of building and bridge, and acts as a southern gate to the city of paris. out of over 125 submissions, three were selected as winners: ‘portal’ by luis soares, the ‘new wavent’ by julien guéganou and jean-baptiste blondel, and ‘pondora’ by james mak and alison cheng. all awarded proposals are scheduled to be presented at the foundation’s venice gallery during the biennale of architecture in late may of this year.
