I was reminded of &quot;Tubular Bridges&quot; . Something similar was done in the 1840&#039;s . The Britannia Bridge over the Menai Straits is a famous example. 
It looks like recycled cargo containers are a ready made steel bridge, for pedestrians and bicycles at least.</description>
