zaha hadid has completed a vast exhibition hall in nuremberg – a 9,000 square meter building capable of hosting a range of large scale events in the german city. with a total cost of 37 million euros, the facility is intended to be as flexible as possible, with scope for future development.

the structure is clad with glazed façades supported by characteristic converging tree-like columns. these supports both lend the design an organic resonance, and provide important solar shading – protecting the hall’s scores of annual visitors from harsh sunlight. internally, wave-shaped slats line a gently sloped ceiling, which climbs to a total height of 20 meters. a steel-framed truss spans the expansive 75 meter volume, liberating a column-free floor space.

‘hall 3A sets another trend in urban development and at the same time is an architectural landmark for further development of the site’, explained jan hübener, the architect responsible at zaha hadid architects.
