super magritte, a blog-based creative project, pays homage to belgian surrealist master rené magritte. the tumblr artist reimagines some of the painter’s most iconic work as 8-bit designs, using backgrounds, symbols and gaming motifs from nintendo’s super mario brothers video game series. characters like bullet bill and koopa are substituted for some of magritte’s painted elements. while maintaining the composition and proportions of the original pieces, the pixelated versions capture the nostalgia of a bygone gaming era.
