dancing ai weiwei to cover rapper psy's gangnam style

the renowned chinese dissident artist ai weiwei dances to korean rapper psy's gangnam style music video. the 4 minute parody shows
the 55-year old activist donned with a pink shirt, black suit and sunglasses performing energetically to the famous song with a group of
associates in his beijing courtyard studio. referencing his 81 days spent in detention he skillfully twirls handcuffs and - at one point -
looses his sunglasses due to his enthusiastic dancing.

weiwei's version is entitled 'grass mud horse style' after an animal invented by china's web users in an effort to challenge internet censorship -
its pronunciation in chinese (cao ni ma) sounds similar to a crude and forbidden remark. psy's gangnam style has more than 530m
views and counting on youtube. chinese internet authorities have now blocked the parody but can still be seen outside china on youtube.

  • He is soo awesome! :) I love the fun having attitude at life, especially when sending such an important mesage on censorship! Wish him all the best!

    GlowyPR says:
  • it’s sad to me that unfortunately many people will see this as a glorification of a viral talentless feaux-artist’s pathetic excuse for ‘music, art, or entertainment’ in general. I hope people can look beyond the ‘ha ha, ai wei wei is dancing the gangnam style’ and see what he’s really trying to do here.

    dwnhill says:
  • e…..just couldn’t understand his style. i love his other works. May be his attitude is good.

    june says:
  • @dwnhill I don’t think people is that stupid to not realize of what he ment with this, besides there’s an article explaining it at the beggining of the post :)

    Andrea says:
  • Support, ai weiwei! Genial!

    Diego says:
  • @Andrea, dwnhill Ok, I am “that” stupid.

What is explained at the beginning of the post? That he made a parody? That he references his trouble with chinese policy only because he appears for a moment wearing handcuffs? WOW! well done.

To me, he looks like a purposeless fatso in this video – lost quite some respect for him. I’d return comments on stupidity for his cheerleaders.

    fetapapa says:
  • I like his style.
Time to take a break fetapapa.

    Dan says:
  • I just love this guy!

    Toby says:
  • I just love this guy.

    Toby says:
  • Watch the doc on him Ai WeiWei: Never Sorry…maybe he’s just trying to have a little down time- and seriously- who gives a fuck if he’s fat?? CeeLo, Biggie- Is that the determining feature that you use to judge people…their weight??Get over yourself douche

    pasha says:
  • i love wei wei art

    suliyat buamar says:
  • The video is blocked in Germany :(
