whether he’s turning a sedan into a jacuzzi, a police car into a chicken coop, or a piece of cardboard into a faux-ferrari, french artist benedetto bufalino has an appreciation for the absurd. most recently, above moscow’ gorky park, bufalino has perched a vintage BMW high in the sky, becoming an unexpected beacon among the wooded landscape. the public art piece is mobilized by a utilitarian construction tool — a skyjack — that slowly raises it towards the clouds.

presented as part of the polytech festival — a science, art, and technology platform in moscow — ‘BMW 4×4 SKY’ adds humor and play to the everyday. from a distance, the elevated object is an unexpected and unusual sight against the sky and clouds as it peeks out from behind the dense brush of trees. in his intrinsically imaginative fashion, bufalino gives the vintage car a new lease of life, allowing it to become a landmark in its own right.
