inside kraftwerk, a former heating plant center in berlin, artist clemens behr has realized a site-specific art bar for absolut as a ‘non-oasis’ — a space between chaos and order. within this industrial site, where concrete and steel dominate the interior, behr’s ‘noasis’ employs thin bars and angular lines to generate an interplay between light and shadow. while polygonal glass forms refract light throughout the space, tropical greenery offers an escape from the otherwise industrial landscape.

presented at berliner liste art fair, ‘noasis’ for absolut features an array of plexiglas and mirrors that together create a feeling of constant movement. meanwhile, ventilators and humidifiers generate a physically tropical atmosphere. using light, shape, material and color, behr’s art bar blends foreground and background, creating an illusion of objects that either vanish into space or come into focus.

‘my work is a classic confrontation between nature and architecture, my vision of a microcosm of everyday life,’ behr says. ‘visitors to my art bar will find themselves in a timeless plastic plant oasis in which light and shadow effects reflect the constant motion of the city. it creates a poetic moment between construction and deconstruction, between chaos and order.’
