‘fluxland’, an immersive artwork by cyril de commarque, is set to travel along london’s river thames from september 8 – 30, 2016. for this sound piece and interactive space, de commarque has mounted a 25-meter long former freight boat with a mirrored polyhedron sculptural form, which will navigate the water on a series of journeys throughout the month of september as a nomadic visual and auditory installation.

the polyhedron form of the floating sculpture is drawn from the ancient greek philosophy that shape can inspire philosophical and artistic contemplation. the mirrored surface is intended to invite personal contemplation, while simultaneously reflecting the external environment. as it journeys along the river thames, cyril de commarque’s fluxland will reflect architectural elements of the city skyline and mirror passing buildings across its geometric façade. both visitors of the totally thames festival and passersby can listen to the artist’s soundtrack of samples sourced from across the globe. when the boat moors in different points along the river, viewers will be able to board and experience its immersive environment.

the name ‘fluxland’ is drawn from the fluxus movement — an artistic revolution in the 1960s that sought to facilitate unexpected encounters between art and the public. with this spirit in mind, the installation will serve as a space for leading thinkers and keynote speakers to come together and engage with each other in a series of talks. the conversations — whose focus will be on the intersection between politics, progress and utopia — will be streamed online, bringing the discussion to the public.
