in a warhol-meets-duchamp kind of way, cyril lancelin’s studio town and concrete uses a ‘readymade’ element of pop culture, the pink flamingo inflatable, to create an architectural installation for new york’s pinknic festival. the french artist, whose inflatable structures have traveled from normandy to hangzhou, has worked with one of the most basic and profound forms, the torus (three dimensional, donut-shaped geometric shape) to create a unique, immersive pavilion for contemplation and exploration. the ‘flamingo torus’ invites visitors of the festival to walk around it and look through its ‘windows’, while providing the perfect background, or center piece, for their instagram moments.

town and concrete uses flamingos as the raw material of this immersive inflatable construction. designed as more than an object to view, the flamingo torus is a place meant to be experienced, where pop culture meets contemporary thinking. ‘using primitive objects as a construction material brings the unexpected in the design,’ explains lancelin.
