using colorful thread and vintage rackets, cape town-based artist danielle clough forms vibrant floral compositions interwoven between the mesh of nylon cord. flora and fauna — from a bouquet of red tulips to a pink-toned rose — are delineated in fabric fibers, carefully laced through the racket’s waffle-like configuration. rendered with detail and shading, each of the botanical weavings interact in some way with the sports gear they are situated on, by either matching the hue of the handle or the color of the laminated wood frame. the series continues clough’s work with hyperrealistic embroidered compositions, and brings together two disparate elements and ideas into an elegant art object.
