with an understated, tongue-in-cheek approach to composition and communication, artist domenic bahmann has been developing his ongoing ‘stop, think, make’ for more than two years. the canberra, australia-based creative uses ordinary household materials, food and fabric to form a zany array of playful images that humorously personify edible items like fruits and vegetables, and turn commonplace objects into whimsical scenarios. with titles like ‘suntanana’ — a browned banana reclining on a corrugated cardboard ‘beach chair’ — and ‘puppermint’ — a tiny dog-shaped sculpture assembled from tic tacs spilled on a table — the compositions cleverly turn easily recognizable materials into fun, eye-catching work. ‘each little miniature item is like a small and self-contained joke or statement,’ bahmann says. ‘it only helps that most of them are created out of simple arrangements of every-day objects that we could easily collect at home.’
