‘new directions’ is a series of small sculptures by mexican artist edgar orlaineta. the works are fictional extensions of famed american designer alvin lustig’s numerous book jackets for new directions books in the 1940s and 50s. composed of wood, brass, aluminum, steel, and others; each is paired with an original book designed by lustig, or a text written regarding his career. after showings in milan’s FL gallery, and 99.9 gallery in guatemala city, ‘new directions’ is currently in-route to a group show at MARCO, in moterrey, nuevo león, mexico.
