discovered by michaelangelo and excavated by the medici family in the 16th century, the quarries near serravezza in italy
have provided american designer betony vernon with exotic marble to complete erotic sculptures for KAMA: sex & design.
using a scalpel to craft her work, the artist ultimately conceives 'origin chair', a monumental 2.8 meter tall seating object -
presented as a celebration of man, woman, and the sexual union.

the exhibition, which investigates the relationship between eros & design and how sexuality incorporates itself into the
medium of knowledge is held at the trienniale di milano until march 10, 2013 alongside eight other international designers -
andrea branzi, nacho carbonell, niggle coates, matali crasset, lapo lain, nendo and italo rota.

  • The stone is certanly beautiful and the piece is interesting, but for marble-sake, do not claim you are actually working the marble in some pictures, when the pieces have clearly been milled by machine and you’re holding the wrong tool and the wrong chiesel. It’s disrespectuf towards who really hand carve stone…

    andrea says:
  • love the high heels and red nail varnish while working with tools! lol

    just me says:
  • Working in a high heels… interesting

    igor says:
  • I am guessing by the way she is holding the pnuematic chisel to the 3D printed model with the printer layers still showing that she didn’t get any marble dust under her manicured nails…
