taking place in new york city, fabergé‘s big egg hunt offers the public a chance to search for individually crafted sculptural eggs produced by a host of renowned artists and architects, including zaha hadid, tracey emin, and ralph lauren.

over 250 two-foot tall artworks have been placed across the city in a variety of unexpected locations. participants can download the free official app with a map detailing the whereabouts of each treasure, while entrants can keep updated with the progress of the event via the competition’s social media outlets. in addition, participants will have a chance to win jewel-encrusted fabergé pendants valued between $30,000 and $48,000.

zaha hadid‘s piece investigates the relationship between natural shapes and urban fabrics, resulting in a fluid and dynamic form, while benjamin shine‘s ‘all-ways new york’ pays homage to the unique streets and locations that underpin the diversity of the city. british artist tracey emin commented on her design: ‘I didn’t just want to decorate the egg, I wanted it to mean something to me and strangely enough it’s the first thing that I made in my new apartment in new york. I think it is self-evident what the words mean.’

the scavenger hunt runs for three weeks, before the eggs are auctioned off in order to raise money for children in new york city through studio in a school, and conservation efforts through elephant family. each of the masterpieces are being displayed at new york’s rockefeller center from april 18th until april 25th, 2014.
