‘here’ is a generative video installation that uses depth sensors, simulated physics and the viewers’ body to paint an interactive, real-time video collage. the project which will be presented at MOCA los angeles, was created by alex benzer and shelley holcomb, who have used computer vision software to detect the contours of the participants’ bodies which are then layered against videos recorded around the city of LA.

the installation which will be presented at MOCA los angeles on the 29th of october, aims to celebrate LA by capturing icons, symbols and cultural ephemera of the city. streets scenes and everyday scenarios were filmed by shelley holcomb of curate LA, which have been used to form a multi-layered collage against the movements of the participants. the program rotates through various styles including sustained fade and splatter modes which form a gestural painting experience, where viewers can watch their body move and distort to reveal new, unknown aspects of the city.
