furthering the growth and development of her organic porcelain designs, hitomi hosono has intricately crafted a series of delicate sculptures which collect influence from the vibrant landscape of the tropical south pacific. for the first time in her practice, the japanese artist experiments with the use of color in her chiseled botanical forms.

from july 11th through august 31st, 2014, hosono will present works for the jerwood makers open 2014, a major initiative in the london-based gallery’s visual arts program, which recognizes rising stars in the world of applied arts. the showcase of new works introduces a vibrant spectrum of hues, from saturated forest greens to pale pinks and yellows. through a series of experimental processes with pigments and oxides, the artist crafts a family of natural forms that reference from the natural foliage typical to island environments, particularly banana leaves, mangrove, hibiscus and yellow and orange corals.
