a moscow-based designer takes us back to the year 1995 with a glimpse of what instagram might look like had it existed more than 20 years ago. misha petrick envisions the popular picture sharing app on a windows 95 operating system, with its 8-bit graphics, pixelated MS sans serif font, and familiar teal blue background.
a series of animated gifs illustrate three different aspects of instagram use: scrolling through the feed; being notified of your followers; and adding filters to your photos. petrick‘s final animated addition is the instagram logo itself, rendered in 8-bit and pictured alongside the colorful and unmistakable windows 95 mark. the app’s entire interface has been considered in the style of a bygone time, where users can add filers called ‘1-bit’ and ‘mac ’86’, while being notified of their new comments via a flat grey pop up window.
