continuing with her ‘ciclotrama’ series that has been going on for more than five years, brazilian artist janaina mello landini was invited to create a site-specific piece for the galerie virgine louvet in paris. for this specific piece she used 30 meters of blue nylon rope with 32mm in diameter plus 2,484 nails. her process is that of unweaving the rope, thread by thread, knitting a new place while untying the strings. in the end, the rope is not contained anymore in the space but starts being one of the objects that constitutes it. the artwork makes it natural for the viewer to think about roots, the circulatory system, nerve endings, and the rhizome, and to ask questions about architecture, physics, mathematics and networks.

by untying the rope, the artist weaves a new space

the rope starts spreading to the wall resembling branches

each line is tied to a single nail and the whole installation has 2,484 nails in total

the piece can be seen as roots, branches, the circulatory system, nerve endings, the rhizome, etc.

each branch divides itself in two, in a movement that tends to infinity

the shadows also help build the complex design of the installation
