originally informed by medieval monk cells, visual artist jiri prihoda has evolved his ‘thought cells’ for the third in his series, presented for a fine art exhibition at the new zlín salon, czech republic. for the latest variation, the cell is suspended from a concrete ceiling within a raw open space, wedged into a quarter circle plywood frame. unlike his previous works, the visitor is not able to access the dark cell’s interior chamber, except for visual contact through a quarter width wide window on the cell.

the cell’s interior is not equipped with any furniture; it remains as clean, white space inside. since the external façade is wrapped in a thick thermo-insulating wool, the cell itself doesn’t have any recourse of light. the project is strictly determined to limit practical use, modified to only look through its unusually-shaped, dark volume without space any possibility of being certain of what is inside.
