JR: could art change the world?
the watari museum of contemporary art
on now through to june 2nd, 2013
renowned parisan artist JR presents his first solo museum exhibition opened in tokyo, japan, at the watari museum of contemporary art until the
the 2nd of june, 2013. JR will be showing work from his famed 'inside out project', of which designboom covered his hong kong intervention here.
the 'inside out project' is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. everyone is
welcomed and challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world.
these digitally uploaded photos will be made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators for them to then exhibit in their own communities.
in signature JR style, a cumulus of images grace the facade of watari museum in a large pasting recognising the inhabitants from north east japan,
where the tsunami hit in march of 2011.
