artist and illustrator mai li bernard has completed a sequence of colorful compositions that depict brutalist architectural buildings using sticky notes. the series of ‘archi-gommettes’ (archi-stickers) comprises imagined structures and fictional forms made of carefully cut geometries and singular shapes.

the industrial-style structures imagined by mai li bernard include some of the most archetypal features of brutalism — repeated modular elements, imposing forms, and visible building functions. triangular, square, circular and rectangular cut-outs are assembled into monolithic edifices and angular anatomies. juxtaposing the sometimes severe appearance of brutalist buildings, bernard has chosen a colorful palette of bright pink, yellow, blue and green that give the architectural style a novel and lively quality.
