japanese artist toshihiko shibuya has placed ‘snow palette 5’ in the serene, powder-filled landscape of the otaru canal plaza and in the japanese garden at the old aoyama villa. the latest in the series of environmental, winter works, the colorful art objects sit amongst the frosted terrain; fluorescent paint has been applied to the bottom of the doughnut-shape, iron structures, reflecting kaleidoscopic hues onto the ground’s surface. the varying heights of each construction create an undulating sea of chroma and — depending on the snowfall and sunshine — the panorama naturally changes in texture and atmospheric quality. ‘snow pallet 5’ is presented by clark gallery + SHIFT, supported by otaru tourism association and the hokkaido newspaper press.
