as the ever-increasing ubiquity of pokémon manages to permeate our everyday lives, two user interface designers are continuing the trend with ‘pokeID’ — a pairing of NIKEiD kicks with colorful cartoon characters. gene lu and duncan hoge have created dedicated tumblr and instagram pages that match sneakers to the likes of squirtle, snorlax, and shinx.

the two UX designers at R/GA portand invite tumblr users to customize a bespoke NIKE sneaker based on various pokémon palettes. participants are asked to submit a style of shoe that best matches a character, based on its color, shape, and personality. examples include a pair of air max 1 ultra flyknit in yellow and orange, mimicking ‘charizard’; the SB zoom stefan janoski in black, white, and salmon to match ‘seaking’; and hypervenom phantom II SG-pros in yellow and black for ‘electabuzz’. gene lu and duncan hoge have programed the page to link the pokémon pairs to directly to the NIKEiD site, so visitors can purchase their very own poké-shoe.
