tattoos serve as physical memoirs, cataloging our stories and secrets. although these painstaking and arguably excruciating bodily artworks are often considered to be private and highly personal, masses from the ink-adorned community flock to convention centers around the world to exhibit their saturated skin.

at this year’s london tattoo convention held at the end of september, photographer andy lo pò was on hand to document the visitors and participants of the 10th annual show. his high-contrast images reveal the vibrant patterns, intricately-drawn details and meticulous skill necessary to complete the inked illustrations. colorful makeup and subdermal implants complete the looks of many attendees, each bearing distinct and completely unique additions to their bodies. the portraits snapped through lo pò’s lens not only communicate the artistry and aptitude of tattoo professionals, but also serve to impart the eccentric qualities of each individuals personality.
