like the ‘hexi’ responsive wall, ‘S1’ by canadian thibaut sld reacts to its environment and sudden movements. composed of a polyurethane shell wrapped around an elongated ring with a PMMA diffuser, the interactive pendant lamp is aware of nearby human activity. the lighting system runs off electricity generated by hanging power cables using jack connectors, with dimmable LED strips hooked up to proximity sensors. two ceiling mounted winches control the elevation of each end. ‘its level can be raised to get a global lighting or lowered to concentrate the beam,’ says the designer. two ceiling mounted winches control the elevation of each end, ‘combining many units also allows to generate preprogrammed dynamic patterns,’ he adds.
