‘segni’ (signs) is an urban installation by italian architect meinero emanuele. the design expresses gestures made with hands – conventionally used to communicate. located on via dronero in the historic center of cuneo, italy and constructed as part of the event ‘ZOOart 2013‘, the works were focused on the theme of ‘community’. ‘segni’ uses silhouettes made of plastic, that are suspended between the walls of a narrow road. two main forms were used; the shape of a handshake and a gun. their meanings are universally recognized as either a point of union or an indication of hostility and threat. initially, the objects appear to be reaching out to one another, further down the street it becomes obvious that some are recoiling away – commenting on the battle between war and peace.
