wim delvoye translates the principle of rorschach plates / inkblot tests into 3D, reactivating mythological figures of the 19th century– such as antonin mercié’s ‘gloria victis’ and emile andré boisseau’s ‘la jeunesse’–developing a series of nickeled bronze sculptures which appear to be mirroring themselves as a result. drawing strong influences from gothic motifs–in architecture and art–the belgian artist’s work derives its roots in these past styles, expressed as subversive and ironic interpretations.
