london based designer yoni alter has created a colorful 3D puzzle in the shape of NIKE air jordan. made up of 19 hand crafted resin parts, the lighthearted rending of the popular trainer plays with the viewer’s perception of color, scale and substance.

‘it’s not about what we know about the thing that we see, it’s only about what we actually see’, says yoni alter of the project. by deconstructing the iconic piece of footwear and rebuilding it as a fragmented sculpture bursting with color, alter suggests new and psychedelic ways to view the world around us. ‘if we look at an air jordan trainer and forget that we know how the trainer is constructed (like the fact that it’s hollow and so on), then we can assume that all these visual elements on the shoe are separate chunks of material’.

the artist has previously created a print of the shoe (specifically the jordan flight 45 high) in flat colors. deconstructing and reconstructing iconic silhouettes is a recurring theme in alter’s work, and saw him produce his ‘shape of cities’ series, where signature cityscapes were represented in a collection of vibrantly assembled outlines. alter is taking pre-orders for the limited edition puzzle here.
