to professionals, students, and design-enthusiasts.

--- 01 - the subject of the international competition is bright LED
experimentation and innovation on the theme of LED lighting
3 categories for LED lighting participants are requested to develop innovative LED lights for one or more of the 3 categories:
- LED lighting indoor (standing lamp, table lamp, hanging lamp, chandelier, etc.)
- LED lighting outdoor (lamp post, safety light, roadway light, lawn light, etc.)
- LED lighting in the landscape (architecture façade, underground space, bill board, placard, digital banner, etc.)
--- 02 - awards
- 1st prize: 1 gwangju metropolitan city mayor award $ 3,000 USD - 2nd prize: 1 GB foundation chairman award $ 1,500 USD
- 3rd prize: 2 ex equo GDB talent award $ 500 USD
75 works (25 entries from each category) will be exhibited at GDB 2007 along with 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize winners.
* a total of 4 cash awarded entries will be included in the main exhibition catalogue of (GDB 2007).
in the event that the gwangju biennale foundation exercises the option to use the rights for production
on an exclusive basis and sine die (without time limitations), gwangju biennale foundation undertakes to pay a royalty of 4% to the designer.
and as always designboom and designflux (korean partner site of designboom) will publish an exhaustive results report.

--- 04 - design criteria 'design is the light that is shed on the human race, brightening the present as well as lighting a path to the
future. our surroundings are bathed in design’s light in a warm, protective glow. design is a living, breathing

projects should use LED lights (or a combination of other light sources with LEDs)
projects should be innovative in terms of use of LED technology, but please
don't send in vague concepts, go a step further and consider the feasibility of manufacturing.
the jury will award designs and concepts which are innovative in terms of
their formal aspects as well as their functional ones.
projects should not be currently in production!
previously published or exhibited projects are acceptable.

--- 07 - submit your entry / entries
whether you're an individual or group, you can only submit a maximum of 3 works.
you will be requested to supply:
1. up to 3 files for uploading to our server
(images or a composition of more images) of your project. please note: use only .gif, .jpeg, (72 dpi) max 100 kb each file, RGB color mode.
image size max 600 (width) x 700 (height) pixels.
the original high-resolution image(s)
will be requested if your work is shortlisted.
in this case you should send usa hi-res file of your design
approximately 100 x 70 cm, 300dpi.
2. explanation of ideas
a brief description of your work.
(english text only, explanation is expected to be concise)
3.you will be requested to accept the competition guidelines
competition guidelines: projects participating to the competition,
must be original works. projects must be free from copyrights
and any kind of obligation. the design shall not in any way infringe
any third party’s right, including but not limited to copyright, logos,
trademark, trade names, or other proprietary rights of publicity or
privacy. only entries with a declaration of authorship are accepted ! (when submitting your design you will be asked to tick a box of declaration)

works can be submitted through september 05, 2007.
--- 09 - copyright
any moral and paternity right regarding the project sent in for
application is designer’s property.
however
by participating in the competition, all participants authorise designboom
and gwangju design biennale to publish and exhibit all the designs (including project data submitted)
waiving compensation at exhibitions and events and/or to use them in any
publications that the organisers may deem suitable and/or necessary. and
by submitting a design in the competition, the participant agrees to provide gwangju biennalefoundation with the right of first refusal to the exclusive use of the design.
this option is valid until january 30, 2008.
in the event that gwangju biennalefoundation exercises the option to use the rights for production

this second edition of the design biennale runs under the theme of 'L.I.G.H.T.', to be held in the city
of gwangju, in southern korea, from 5th october to 3rd november 2007. this international design event
has been conceived and organized by the gwangju biennale foundation, which has achieved global
recognition for its art biennale since twelve years.
about 1800 exhibits from individual contemporary design works, devided into 5 different
themes of L.I.G.H.T.,link to the future; idea, identity inspiration; green growth; horizon of humanity;
over 35 countries will be presented in this event, which is expected to bring inspiration
