results will be published after the imm cologne fair, january 17 - 23, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  koelnmesse / IMM cuisinale 2005 international on-line design competition C A L L - F O R - E N T R I E S designboom and ' IMM cuisinale' by koelnmesse launch an international on-line design competition. participation is open to applicants from every country in the world, to professionals, students, and design-enthusiasts. free registration required. --- 01 - the subject of the international competition is ‘the kitchen is the heart of the home’ participants are requested to submit their designs and concepts for one or more of the three categories: a – AMBIENT new built-in kitchens for alternative room concepts b – DETAIL new ideas for equipping kitchen cabinets,… c – PRODUCT new ideas for products that facilitate work in the kitchen --- 02 – awards a first prize will be awarded in each of the 3 categories (Euro 2000 each) + air fare (economy class) and accommodation paid. the 3 first prize winners will be invited to imm cuisinale award in cologne, germany to receive their prizes. winning entries and short-listed works will be on display at the next IMM cuisinale show at the international furniture fair IMM cologne, germany, to be held from January 17th to 23rd, 2005. the jury will also grant 10 honorable mentions for each of the 3 categories. the most interesting designs will be presented to companies in the manufacturing sectors for possible production. designboom will publish an exhaustive results report. --- 03 – the jury is composed of - matteo thun, architect and designer (I) - werner aisslinger, designer (D) - herbert h. schultes, designer (D) - h. reinhard segers, designer, gaggenau gmbh (D) - peter-philipp schmitt, press/ FAZ - Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (D) - birgit lohmann, editor-in-chief designboom.com (I) --- 04 - theme / explanations a – AMBIENT new built-in kitchens for alternative room concepts. standard built-in kitchens tend to feature cabinets positioned against walls. they optimize storage space and hamper communication with family, partners or friends. creating function centres, e.g. for preparing food, cooking, refrigerating and washing-up, provides an approach to breaking away from familiar concepts. entries should propose new room solutions that optimize functions, storage space as well as communication and integrate kitchens into everyday living. b – DETAIL new ideas for equipping kitchen cabinets. base-unit equipment used to be limited to drawers and shelves, wall-unit equipment to shelves. corner units feature semicircular shelves or carousel solutions. in particular, improvements are desirable in the wall-unit section for which ingenious ideas are expected. c – PRODUCT new ideas for products that facilitate work in the kitchen. often ‘small’ ideas optimize work routines. this category seeks a distinctly creative approach to new product ideas that make it more fun to cook, to fry and bake and which are capable of optimizing general kitchen functions. --- 05 - design criteria the jury will award designs and concepts which are innovative in terms of their formal / technological aspects as well as their functional ones. projects should not be currently in production, previously published or exhibited projects are accepted. --- 06 – registration deadline application registration will be accepted through october 15, 2004. --- 07 - registration registrations are open now, please fill in the form. teams register with one name only - when submitting works you should add all team member’s names. (there is a maximum enrollment, registration may close prior to that deadline) --- 08 - submit your entry / entries whether you're an individual or group, you can submit max.3 works. --- we invite you to use our new on-line publishing system which allows all designers to publish their projects directly on our server, making the jury process faster and more transparent. as the designer, you can publish, verify and modify the lay-out of your page. the new system will allow a larger number of designs to be visible to the designboom public, thus giving designers greater visibility. you will be requested to supply: 1 - up to 3 images of your project. please note: use only .gif, .jpeg, (72 dpi) max 100 kb each file. image size max 600x660 pixels. if you are not able to reduce the size of your file please see the tutorial on how reduce the size of your file with photoshop. - the original high-resolution image(s) will be requested if your work is selected for the exhibition - 2 - explanation of ideas a brief description of your work.
