designboom presents LG Display OLED light Design Competition 2016 shortlist

For the second time, designboom co-hosted the LG Display OLED light Design Competition: 'You Dream, We Light' has been the theme for this second round. the LG Display OLED light Design Competition provides an opportunity for young innovators to showcase their works while receiving feedback from world renowned professionals in the area of design. Through this initiative, LG Display hopes to nurture and support world-enriching creators. Submissions were received by designboom during the application period from August 31st to November 18th, 2016. See the official rules here.

After careful consideration, five winners have been selected by the five judges. The total prize has been set to $13,000 USD and the 1st place prize was $5,000 USD. Judges have chose the five TOP winners based on criteria of uniqueness, originality, relevance to the theme and the possibility of future business.

ELAC (Embroidered Light for Acoustic Ceilings) by Hanne-Louise Johannesen (Diffus Design)Michel guglielmi (Diffus Design)Jens Lee Jørgensen (Diffus Design)Pierre Chigot (Ecophon / Saint Gobain)Jean Yves Laluet (Saint Gobain Research) from denmark has shown a new concept design and usage of OLED. The convergence of ceiling and OLED panels are unique and creative.

BLOOM by Henning Marxen from germany has well shown the flexible features of OLED panels. Levels of brightness can be modified which will be a great use in daily lives.

 EASE by Bin Hua from canada has applied flexible OLED panels to a lamp that can maximize and showcase the features of technology for simplicity and elegance.

 

 

third prize $ 1,000 USD

LIVINGSTONE by D'alesio & Santoro from italy has shown a unique and creative product design with OLED panels.

HEAL FLOWERPOT by Taehoon Kim from korea has shown warm and healing products design with OLED panels. Also flexible and heatless features are well applied with the product.

 

 

 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the LG Display OLED light Design Competition 2016.

This year we received 2,700 applications from 60 countries, all answering to the theme of “You Dream, We Light".

After extensive discussion among the distinguished members of the judging panel, 5 finalists were selected based on their potential contribution to design innovation and their ability to enrich society.
