peter fischli and david weiss - 'flowers and questions' retrospective exhibiton by swiss artists........................................................................................................................
--- room 9b, 10 & 11 spread over three smaller rooms, 'objects from the raft'
is a surreal collection of animals and objects that together
weave a fairy tale-like story line. in room 9b, a large
female pig lies on the floor of the elaborately decorated
room, as her offspring feed off her. further on,
in room 10, a giant collection of objects is grouped into
a large mass atop a series of boards. a tall mast sticks
out from the heap, signaling its nautical nature. through the
connecting doorway, an alligator head gazes at the 'raft'.
peering further into room 11, hippos and more alligators
appear to float atop the palazzo's floor. the entire
collection of objects is made from carved polyurethane
and hand painted in a rough manner.
room 16 to end the retrospective, the final room is completely
empty minus a radio sitting atop a white plinth.
'radio' is a sculptural sound piece which plays back
actual radio broadcasts from a few months prior.
a glowing light shines on the radio in a series of
colours, as music and news from the past play over
the loudspeaker.
